Dole Food has revealed plans to expand its activities across South America, starting with the establishment of a processing facility for vegetables in Argentina next year, according to a report by Diario La Nación.

The announcement was made in Santiago, Chile, where the food giant operates a local subsidiary, Dole Chile.

Dole Chile, which will be responsible for the company’s expansion in South America, said the company plans to use a strategy very similar to the one developed in Chile.

“The plan in Argentina is to replicate the vegetable sales model which we have carried out on the internal Chilean market,” general manager Juan Pablo Vicuña told Diario La Nación.

“We believe we are going find quite a bit of competition in our neighbouring country because a developed industry already exists there.”

Dole is already active in Argentina through the marketing of certain imported fruits from Chile, Costa Rica, Honduras and Ecuador, according to the report.

The company also has operations in Peru (coordinated through Dole Chile) and shortly plans to expand into Brazil and Colombia, the report said.

Alongside the globalisation of its activities, Dole said it is also in a stage of restructuring regarding the varieties of fruit it supplies in an effort to achieve greater added value to its exports and reduce costs for its providers.
