Sri Lanka's government has given the go-ahead for a national organic body to regulate organic fruit and vegetable export quality, reports Sri Lankan newspaper the Daily Mirror.

The cabinet last week approved the minister of industry and commerce's proposal to set up a National Organic Control Authority to establish a credible system of quality assurance for organic products such as cashew nuts, tropical fruits and vegetables, and thereby facilitate exports.

The new body will be established by an Act of Parliament, the report said.
