The citrus harvest in South Australia is the lowest it’s been in years, according to the SA Citrus Board.

The projected crop for this year has been adjusted to 50,000 tonnes, down from last year’s 77,000 tonnes.

According to the board’s Kym Thiel the drop can be blamed on water restrictions in the last 12 months, and heavy hedging and pruning of orchards. Production of Washington navels has been particularly low.

He says the quality and taste of the navels is exceptional, despite the low yields.
