organic bananas

The value of organic food exports from Peru rose by 50 per cent during the January to May period of 2011, according to Peru’s export and tourism agency (Promperú) and reported by Andina.pe.

Within the category, exports – including organic bananas, coffee, cocoa, mangos and quinoa – rose to some US$64.53m in value during the first five months of the year.

The growth in Peru’s organic food exports began five years ago on the back of strong global demand for organic coffee and bananas, according to Promperú.

The main export markets were Germany, Belgium, the US, Canada, Sweden, the UK, the Netherlands, Mexico, as well as new destinations including Denmark and Switzerland.
