Sri Lanka and Pakistan are discussing ways of expanding the volume of trade between their two countries, reports colombopage.com.

Sri Lanka's high commissioner of Pakistan and the chairman of the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDA) met in Colombo on Monday (December 12) to strengthen commercial ties and find ways of boosting trade volumes to over US$1bn.

Pakistan is the second-largest trading partner for Sri Lanka in the SAARC region, but there is vast untapped potential to enhance trade under the two countries' Free Trade Agreement (signed in 2005), the high commissioner of Pakistan is reported to have said.

Sri Lanka exports to Pakistan in 2010 included fresh coconuts and lentils, according to the report.
