AP Moller Maersk, which runs the world’s largest shipping operator, Maersk Line, said it was not quite keeping step with container shipping growth worldwide, according to Reuters.

“Obviously we don't want to lose market share, on the other hand we are, given the present market conditions, quite pleased we don't have the largest order book coming on stream in the next couple of years,” said Maersk Chief Executive Nils Andersen.

“That means we will have to accept some loss of market share. We want to make it as little as possible.”

Maersk said global container shipping grew by 7 per cent in the first half of 2008, while the shipping line only grew by 5 per cent.
