Enza

Next week will see the first shipment of New Zealand Enza apples arrive at the port of Antwerp in Belgium.

The vessel will include Cox Oranges, small-sized Royal Galas and the first Jazz apples, according to a company press release, with a second vessel scheduled for the following week.

New Zealand has reportedly experienced a wet summer with low temperatures, causing the crop to be delayed by some 10 days and the fruit to be slightly smaller than average.

'These conditions are, however, optimal with regards to colouration and taste, which gives high expectations for the quality of the fruit,' the company said.

The first Southern Hemisphere Jazz apples take over seamlessly from the European Jazz crop, which concluded with sales of 18,000 tonnes in Europe.
