A Free Trade Agreement between Chile and Malaysia came into effect last week, Chile’s director general of International Economic Relations (DIRECON), Rodrigo Contreras, announced.

'From now on 98.6 per cent of Chilean products will enter duty free to Malaysia, for example fresh fruits, while from Malaysia to Chile 95 per cent of total exports products will enter with zero tariff, including tropical fruits,' Contreras is quoted as saying on Freshplaza.com.

Commenting on the development, Antonio Walker, president of Chilean produce organisation Fedefruta, reportedly said: 'trade liberalisation in Malaysia will diversify our markets, deepen and increase our involvement in South East Asia, a destination that represents huge opportunities for our products.”
