Pineapples

Malaysia expects Chinese authorities to grant access for pineapple and jackfruit within the year.

Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry secretary-general Datuk Mohd Hashim Abdullah told Malaysian newspaper Bernama the country currently produces some 40,000 tonnes of pineapple and 30,000 tonnes of jackfruit per year.

“We have the production quality which meets China's requirements. We are now awaiting the consideration of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine," he said.

"We have sent the documents needed and during the visit of the minister to China last month, his Chinese counterpart gave assurance to speed up the process. We hope to get the approval within this year,” he added.

"It is the desire of the ministry to make Zhanjiang a gateway for Malaysia's products into China."
