Malaysian High Commissioner to India Ten Seng Sung has revealed that Malaysian-Indian bilateral trade stood at US$4.09bn for the first five months of the year, up from US$2.94bn during the same period in 2007. The high commissioner added that trade could reach US$16bn by 2012.
Sindh Today reported that, during a meeting between Mr Sung and West Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, India sought further collaboration with Malaysia in the area of agro-processing.
Mr Bhattacharjee said that West Bengal could export mangoes to Malaysia and provide opportunities to the companies from Malaysia to put up potato processing plants.
The two countries also identified sectors such as petrol and gas, IT, healthcare, education, processed foods, medicine, construction and engineering as possible bilateral trade growth areas.
