Indian retail company Wadhawan Food Retail is planning to diversify into new formats, according to a report on Planet Retail.

The group, which owns the Spinach neighbourhood stores, said it wants to focus on formats that “deal with consumers directly”.

“ As we grow, you will get to see new formats coming up in our retail business. We are aggressively working on that,” company director Ashok Bhasin is quoted as saying.

“Cash & carry is more of a back-end business and we would consider it at a later stage,” he added.

No formal details regarding the new formats have as yet been revealed, but Mr Bhasin said that high real estate prices 'do act as a deterrent for expansion', according to the Planet Retail report.
