Global trade partners APL Logistics and Con-way Freight said today (6 September) they have begun transporting day-definite shipments from Jakarta to North America.

The new services includeOceanGuaranteed: A less-than-containerload service from Asia to Canada, Mexico and the US that provides delivery on a pre-determined date or a refund if the date slips. The service is jointly managed by Singapore-based APL Logistics, a supply chain services provider, and US-based trucker Con-way Freight, which provides day-definite delivery of OceanGuaranteed shipments with the fastest transit times in North America through its dedicated fleet and network of 300 service centres.
And APLGuaranteed: A similar service for full containerload shipments.

The addition of Jakarta brings the number of origin ports for the partners’ guaranteed services to 14. The service was recently expanded to the south China port of Xiamen, and Fuzhou which is linked to the OceanGuaranteed network by truck.

“We’re gratified by the growth of guaranteed service throughout Asia,” said APL Logistics President Jim McAdam. ”And we’re pleased that the partnership underlying the service remains strong.”

“OceanGuaranteed has established itself as a truly differentiated product which provides shippers with speed, reliability and value,” said Con-way Freight President Greg Lehmkuhl. “Today’s expansion underscores the market’s recognition of that value and the superior service performance this partnership is delivering.”

APL Logistics and Con-way Freight launched OceanGuaranteed in 2006 as the world’s first guaranteed shipping service. APL Guaranteed for full container loads was introduced two years later.

The services are designed to provide shipment reliability usually equated with air freight but at lower cost. APL Logistics said the on-time record for OceanGuaranteed has remained at 99 per cent since inception.

APL Logistics and Con-way Freight said the services are successful due to tight integration between the partners. Each link in the supply chain is controlled by the partners. At origin, guaranteed cargo is given priority to space and equipment. Freight is top-stowed on ships to ensure first-off discharge at the port of arrival in North America. Shipments are then quickly inducted into the partner network for delivery to the customers’ door and to more than 45,000 zip codes in the continental US, Canada and Mexico.

APL Logistics provides international, integrated supply chain services in more than 50 countries, including both origin and destination services such as freight consolidation, warehousing and distribution management. APL Logistics is a unit of Singapore-based Neptune Orient Lines (NOL), a global cargo transportation and logistics company.

Con-way Freight is the industry’s leading less-than-truckload (LTL) freight transportation company. It operates a unified network of 300 service centres serving the US, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico.
