US-based fresh produce marketer Chiquita Brands International has officially welcomed its newly appointed chief executive, Ed Lonergan, presenting him with a banana business dictionary to ensure the former healthcare executive gets up to speed quickly.
The book, entitled Banana Industry – Terms & Expressions, will no doubt help Lonergan, a corporate turnaround specialist, who was hired to replace former boss Fernando Aguirre.
Aguirre stepped down after the company reported a series of disappointing quarterly earnings results.
Commenting on the dictionary, Lonergan said every business has its own language.
“This is a business with some level of sophistication,” he told reporters before adding that his goal was to help bring the business focus back to selling bananas and salads.
Chiquita recently relocated its global headquarters from Cincinnati to the North Carolina city of Charlotte.
