Maersk India will be under the guiding hand of Rizwan Soomar from December, according to a company memo, who takes over from Hans-Ole Madsen, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Mr Soomar is the first Indian national to manage Maersk India since the Danish company entered the subcontinent in 1990.

Maersk Line made a post-tax profit of US$73m in the first half of this year, turning the corner on a loss of US$219m over the same period last year.

Hans-Ole Madsen will move to a senior position in APM Terminals International, Maersk’s container terminal operating unit.
