OTC Holland Peruvian organic avocados

Peruvian avocado exports are forecast to rise by 40 per cent to 140,000 tonnes this season according to Hass avocado producer association ProHass. The organisation’s president Arturo Medina said the increase is being driven by strong demand in the US and Europe, where consumption of Hass avocados in markets such as Germany was growing every year.

Peru’s season runs from March to September, when demand in Northern Hemisphere markets is at its peak.

Medina said export guidelines had been modified this season in order to improve the quality of shipments. “One of the most important changes is that from now on, Senasa will require that all exports to all markets contain a minimum of 21.5 per cent dry matter,” he explained.

With the season just getting started, Medina said it was too early to predict how the market would play out. “The important thing is to ensure that we ship an excellent quality product to safeguard the strong reputation our Hass avocados have built up in the world,” he said.
