pineapples

Malaysian pineapple exports are set to enter the US for the first time, following market access approval from the USDA.

Jackfruit and starfruit from the South East Asian nation have also been included under the ruling, which was announced in the USDA’s Federal Register.

Fruit will only be cleared for US entry if it is irradiated for insects, inspected and imported in commercial consignments.

The US imported 925,000 tonnes of pineapples in 2012. The Malaysian government expects to export 2,500 tonnes of pineapples to the US per annum, along with 3,00 tonnes of starfruit and 1,500 tonnes of jackfruit.
