Peruvian mango exports from Piura, Lambayeque and Ancash are estimated to increase to 100,000 tonnes this season.
The positive outlook follows warm weather at the beginning of the flowering period in the three major mango-growing regions, coupled with a high alternate bearing year.
However, variable weather conditions since August will have an as yet undetermined effect on the final crop as 2012 reaches a close, according to Peru’s largest fresh produce exporter Camposol.
The first shipments to the US and Europe are anticipated to arrive during weeks 51 and 52 respectively, which is later than in 2011/12, Camposol told Eurofruit, Americafruit and Asiafruit.
In the future, meanwhile, Camposol claims Peruvian mango suppliers will need to better coordinate their quality efforts in order to secure a sustainable presence on the market in the years to come.
Camposol alone expects to market some 17,000 tonnes of fresh mangoes in 2012/13 during which the group will expand its mango sales window by bringing forward its availability to late December.
