Two trade fairs held last week in Beijing and Shanghai have resulted in a reported US$140m of business deals for Peruvian companies, according to the head of the Andean country’s Ministry for Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), Magali Silva.

Fruit exporters were among the big winners, with grapes, citrus and asparagus among the most demanded products, Silva said. In all, 33 Peruvian companies took part in the event.

Expo Peru is a new strategy promoted Mincetur and trade promotion agency PromPeru to boost business and tourism of Peru in international markets. More than 900 business meetings were held at the events, which attracted entrepreneurs from Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Taiwan, as well as China.

Exports of Peruvian fruits and vegetables to Asia have all increased by more than 95 per cent in the first five months of this year compared to the same period in 2013, according to producer association Agap.
