Scientists from India’s Bihar Agriculture University (BAU) have developed a seedless mango variety called Sindhu, according to India Today.
The seedless mango is a hybrid of the Alphonso and Ratna varieties and will be available to growers in the Bihar region next season, BAU’s vice chancellor M L Choudhary told the Indian newsite.
“The seedless variety also has good export potential,” said Choudhary. “The university would provide quality plants to mango growers in 2015 to exploit the export market.
Trial plantations of the yellow-fleshed fruit are underway across India and, according to BAU, are so far growing successfully in local conditions.
