Indian grapes

Indian grape exports to Europe and the UK have increased to 65,000 tonnes in 2014 after overcoming pesticide residue issues.

Grape exports reached a record high of 192,000 tonnes, up from 172,000 tonnes in 2013, with the UK taking the largest share of the market, according to Financial Express.

The European Union closed off access to Indian grapes in 2010 after finding shipments exceeded the maximum residue level of the chemical chlormequat chloride.

Jagannath Khapre, president of All India Grape Exports Association, told the local news site that this issue had been overcome and would not likely be in issue in the future.

The boost in grape exports has also been the result of new markets in Russia and China, with access to Japan opening in February 2015, Khapre said.
