A five-day national strike by Argentine port workers that threatened to disrupt blueberry exports has been called off after a deal was struck with the Customs Workers’ Union (Supara) to end an ongoing pay dispute. The stoppage was due to take place from 1-5 October.

The latest strike would have been the second in as many weeks following an earlier stoppage on 18-31 September.

“The strike is off. We have come to a satisfactory agreement,” Marcelo Ciordia of Supara told Reuters.

During the previous four-day strike, which kicked off on 18 September, a proportion of blueberry shipments scheduled for week 38 had to be being carried over to the following week, according to the Argentine Blueberry Committee.
