Members of the global shipping partnership, known as the G6 Alliance, have temporarily suspended their Asia-US West Coast shipping service.
“In response to seasonal changes in the market demand, the members of the G6 Alliance have announced the temporary suspension of their Central China service between Asia and the US West Coast until further notice,” Hapag Lloyd said in a statement released 21 October.
As of 31 October, the China-US West Coast service, known as CC2, will be temporarily suspended, with the affected ports to be covered by other G6 services.
Hapag Lloyd said it would be closely monitoring the market and would resume the CC2 service “accordingly”.
Last week, the G6 Alliance announced it would alter its Asia-Europe service, temporarily combining its NYE and SCE services, also as a result of 'seasonal changes in market demand'.
The G6 alliance was formed in 2011 by APL, Hapag-Lloyd, Hyundai Merchant Marine, Mitsui OSK Links, NYK and OOCL.
