India’s major fruit and vegetable producing state Maharashtra has seen its fresh produce exports drop in 2014 compared to the previous year, according to the Times of India.

While India’s overall fresh produce exports are down, particularly exports of grapes and onions, unseasonal rain and inclement weather have affected Maharashtra growers and exporters of mangoes, grapes and onions in particular.

India’s fruit and seed exports fell 33 per cent from April to December compared to the same period in 2013, while onion exports dropped from 1.7m tonnes to 1.48m while mango exports fell from 55,584 tonnes to 41,279 over the same period, according to data released by Apeda.

In Maharashtra, grape exports fell 40 per cent, while onion exports dropped 103 per cent from April to December 2014 compared to 2013, reports the Times.
