Maersk reefer containers

Shipping giant Maersk Line has announced that it has moved to bring in Robbert van Trooijen as its new chief executive officer for the North Asia region.

According to a report by IHS Maritime 360, he will replace the outgoing Tim Smith, who is moving on to become chairman of Maersk China, as well as the chief representative of the Maersk Group in North Asia.

Van Trooijen, who has been at the Maersk Group since 2006, said he was excited about the role and a return to Asia.

''North Asia is a critically important market for Maersk Line, accounting for around 40 per cent of Maersk Line's global export volumes, and we continue to see new opportunities in the market which I will be looking forward to explore,' he said.
