Building a brand image and establishing connections with large distributors in China is the way forward for Taiwanese fruit exports to the Asian power, according to the Council of Agriculture (COA).

The Council’s Chen Wu-hsiung told a legislative committee meeting on Wednesday China was the goal of the COA for fruit and flower exports next year, reported Taiwan News.

The committee recommended the Taiwanese government push quality development in the country’s agriculture sector.

“The COA will work toward anything that is beneficial to farmers or will help tap the market,' Mr Wu-hsiung said.

He explained a quality image needed to be built for Taiwanese fruit, with quality assurance labels to make them stand out from other countries’ produce.

The COA will also continue the practice of Chinese visitors to Taiwan ordering local fruit, which is then delivered to them in China. The Council has made plans to set up delivery sites in Shanghai and Beijing.
