Indian mangoes

Karnataka state, in the south-west region of India, is planning big things for mango exports.

The state's Mango Development Board is keen to boost exports to around 5,000 tonnes, targeting countries including the UK and the US, but first needs to build suitable packhouse facilities.

Kamalaksi Rajanna, chairperson of the board, told Indian site FnB News that, currently, mangoes grown in areas such as Kolar, Dharwad and Ramanagaram are currently sent to Mumbai and Hyderabad for export, with round 2,400 tonnes processed and exported.

However, plans are now afoot to launch packhouses in Kolar, Mysuru and Dharwad in 2015.
