Fresh Del Monte has opened up a new office in Mersin, Turkey, as part of its expansion plans in the region, the company has revealed.
'In addition to serving the local Turkish market with our premium bananas and gold pineapples, we will also offer all other fruit from within our vast portfolio of fresh products,' said Youssef Zakharia, Del Monte's vice president for the MENA region. 'The plan also calls for the establishment of Del Monte's exciting fresh-cut fruit and salad range to support our Turkish customers with our value-added division.'
The office will also serve as a support base to extend the company's services to customers in Iraq, Iran and other neighbouring countries, including Azerbaijan, Georgia and other markets in the Caucasus region.
'We are offering both containers and reefer vessels, depending on demand requirements and fruit availability,' said Zakharia. 'The objective is to sustain a year-round supply of product with a consistent quality that this region has been struggling with for a while.'
