An increase in pipfruit exports is helping drive double digit growth at New Zealand’s Napier Port.
Speaking with Radio New Zealand, the port’s chief executive Garth Cowie said container traffic had risen about 16 per cent over the last 12 months and around 80 per cent over the last 10 years.
As the main exit point for the Hawke’s Bay pipfruit crop, Cowie said growing shipments from this sector, combined with increased dairy, wool and log exports, were the main catalysts for the port’s continued expansion.
To help keep pace with demand, the port has recently opened a new administration building and also invested in upgrading its crane operations.
