Ramón Achurra

Ramón Achurra

Ramón Achurra has been appointed as the new president of Chilean fruit producer association Fedefruta. He will hold the post for the next two years and succeeds Juan Carolus Brown who was appointed in 2014.

Achurra has been a grower for more than 55 years, producing table grapes, top fruit, stonefruit and kiwifruit in central production zones, as well as blueberries in southern Chile.

During this time he has actively participated in new varietal developments, increased mechanisation and modernisation in farms, and the opening of new export markets for Chilean fruit.

His involvement in the fruit industry began in 2008 when he was made president of Frusexta, the association of producers and exporters in the O’Higgins region. He then became a director of Fedefruta in 2010.

During his tenure, one of his key aims will be to convey to the Chilean government the vital role of the fruit industry in the country’s economic development and the need to introduce new labour laws that take into account the specific requirements of the industry and its dependence on the climate.
