Camposol blueberries

Camposol’s blueberry exports are on course to reach 13,000 tonnes in 2016, an increase of 160 per cent on the previous year when exports totaled 5,000 tonnes.

The Peruvian company will harvest most of the volume (80 per cent) between August and December, though the season will continue until March. The most important markets are the US, which absorbs 65 per cent of its export volume, followed by Europe (30 per cent), and Asia (5 per cent).

Javier Morales Garcés, managing director of Camposol Frutas y Vegetales, commented: “The new plantations are now coming into production which is the main reason for the strong increase of our blueberry exports. At present, we have 1,000 ha of blueberries in production, and at the end of the season we will plant another 600 ha.”

The company aims to have 2,000 ha of blueberry production by next year. So far, all blueberries are of the Biloxi variety, but the company is trialling a number new varieties that are due to enter commercial production in the future.
