Certification body GlobalGAP has revealed that it has chosen to adopt Silicon Valley-based greenfence's Platform Technology, the first digital platform economy to empower a fully transparent farm-to-fork eco-system for the global food and beverage industry.

Greenfence enables a 'major economic shift' from the traditional supply-side value chains to demand-side economies of scale, based on the network effects where value is created in platform ecosystems of suppliers, buyers, customers, consumers, etc, the group said.

Greenfence uniquely interconnects all actors within an ecosystem to deliver new opportunities for value creation that are currently unavailable in today’s marketplace.

From agronomic input providers, to small hold and commercial farms to multi-national purchasers (brands and retailers), greenfence will directly connect GlobalGAP's global standards and certification services at all levels of supply and demand value chains.

Under this partnership, GlobalGAP will leverage greenfence’s platform ecosystem to scale the first-ever fully integrated primary producer network with unrivalled potential to connect to and interoperate with unlimited agriculture and aquaculture stakeholders, operations and data sources.

GlobalGAP plans to integrate valuable indicators collected from its network to deliver its customers critical (current and predictive) insights to reduce loss, failures and risk – and make the most profitable day-to-day decisions.

GlobalGAP will expand its leading position in bringing a harmonised offer of farm assurance to a global community of farmers to connect them more effectively to buyers locally and internationally. Working more closely with its 140 Certification Bodies world-wide, the organisation will not only provide its current excellent choices to the primary sector, but will also improve the transparency and integrity of its certification service partners through the greenfence platform.

GlobalGAP chief executive Kristian Moeller commented: “The GlobalGAP–greenfence relationship demonstrates GlobalGAP's commitment to investing in the future of farm certification, through technology-enabled services that deliver more value to the farmer.

'It positions GlobalGAP as an innovative and leading partner to the food and beverage industry in providing a range of potential platform economy services for supply chains connecting to the primary sector powered by greenfence’s technology,' he noted.

Greenfence CEO Mitch Chait added: “GlobalGAP exemplifies the type of innovation leadership necessary to drive meaningful transforming improvements to a massive community of farming, manufacturing and retail organisations. We are delighted to share our platform and innovation resources with an organisation recognised by the world’s largest food brands as a preferred certification provider for its exceptional technical expertise, its global coverage and its capacity to design and deliver services that meet current and future needs of an ever-evolving agricultural industry.”
