Dutch retailer Spar International is making further inroads in China under a new partnership with local company Yunnan Anning Jinfang Commerical Group.

The partnership allows Jinfang to grow the Spar brand in Yunnan Province, as well as Liu Pan Shui City, Bijie City, Buyi and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, and Anshun City in Guizhou Province, according to a Spar statement released 19 May.

At the official announcement, Spar International managing director Tobias Wasmuht said that China was a valued market.

“China is the engine of global economy,” Wasmuht said. “Since entering into China in 2004, Spar [has] worked in close partnership with partners to accelerate the growth of their food retail business through our standard operation, latest store design and modern supply chain expertise, improved shopping experience and enhanced Spar brand awareness in China.

“The partnership with Jinfang represents a further development in the growth of Spar in China.”

Chairman of the Yunnan Jinfang board, Li Jia, added that Spar and Jinfang shared key values in multiple areas.

“I’ve been following SPAR’s development journey since the day one Spar enter into China in 2004, and see the great success achieved by Spar China,” he said. “In order to serve customers in south east China better, we plan to bring high operation standard and modern logistics and supply chain to build diverse retail solutions.
