Japanese wholesaler Farmind is vying to double trade with Taiwan after signing an agreement with a Taiwanese agricultural company Mitagri, reports Nikkei Asian Review.

The Tokyo-based trader operates 14 logistics centres across the country, distributing fresh produce to 30,000 supermarkets and conveniences stores in Japan.

Farmind said it will import carrots, onions and pineapples among other products from Mitagri and sell them to retailers and restaurants, with the aim of reaching ¥10bn (US$89m) in two-trade with the Taiwanese company over five years.

Farmind has also signed agreements with Taiwan’s Chuan Lian Enterprise, which operates supermarket chain Pxmart, to boost Japanese fresh produce exports to Taiwan. Nikkei Asian Review has also reported that Farmind is looking to secure procurement agreements with South Korea.
