Naracoorte, South Australia, will soon be home to a brand new specialised small-seed processing plant.

The new AU$2.9 million facility will aid in the development of export markets for seeds in Asia and Europe, creating opportunities for the state economy as well as new jobs locally.

The South Australian Government has backed the project, and contributed a $300,000 Regional Development Fund grant toward its construction.

The location of the new facility in Naracoorte – considered the heart of small-seed production in Australia – will put South Pacific Seeds closer to their growers in the region.

South Pacific Seeds has been operating since 1986, specialising in producing high quality vegetable seed crops under contract agreements for international customers. They are also the leading supplier of commercial vegetable seeds to the Australian market.

Georgina Fitzgerald, production manager at South Pacific Seeds, said that the new plant would give the company a 200 per cent increase in primary cleaning capacity, and allow them to be more competitive in a global market.
