Jingold kiwifruit range

Italian consortium Jingold expects to begin its next kiwifruit campaign in October with a significantly larger volume of fruit and – for the first time – a red variety, according to the group’s international development manager Federico Milanese.

The increase, mainly the result of newly planted areas coming into production this year, should mean there is more fruit available for sale to overseas markets.

“Thanks also to the production it has in the Southern Hemisphere – Chile and Argentina – Jingold is proving to be one of the market leaders, allowing the consumer to find a Jingold-branded product 12 months of the year,” Milanese comments.

Consolidating its recent efforts, Jingold recently began investing directly in China so that it could be closer to local partners and keep a closer eye on market trends.

Alongside its two established varieties, green Hayward and yellow Jintao, this year’s campaign will see Jingold place a lot of focus on its Jingold Organic line, which is said to be increasingly in demand, as well as Jingold Bliss.

The latter is a green variety called Boerica for which Jingold holds the exclusive rights. This has reportedly been very successful in Asia over the past two commercial campaigns. The reason for its success? “The fruit’s elongated shape,” says Milanese, “is very attractive for the consumer and it has a higher level of sweetness compared with traditional Hayward.”

And with a red-fleshed kiwifruit ready to be sold commercially for the first time, Jingold is certainly becoming known more and more as a very capable kiwifruit specialist.
