Vietnam's fruit and vegetable imports jumped 12 per cent year-on-year through January-August 2018, according to new statistics from the country's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The data, reported by xinhuanet, showed that the total cost of these produce imports came to US$1.1bn for the eight month period.

Fruit imports alone came in at US$812m, growing 0.2 per cent and mainly drawn from China and Thailand, the publication reported.

By comparison, the country imported some US$1.6bn of fruits and vegetables throughout the entirety of 2017.

Vietnam's produce exports also enjoyed a boost in the January-August period, xinhuanet revealed, with value up 14.8 per cent to US$2.7bn.
