Total imports and exports for Indonesia account for close to US$300b, making the country a strategic focus for Kuehne + Nagel.

On 1 October, the company announced its acquisition of Indonesian logistics company, Wira Logistics. This extended network of warehouses and distribution networks is a calculated move, Kuehne + Nagel said, as Indonesia’s ‘burgeoning middle class’ is driving increased purchasing power.

“Indonesia is arguably the most important internet market in South East Asia in terms of its sheer size, emerging middle class and digitally savvy population,” said Gianfranco Sgro, responsible for Contract Logistics and member of the managing board of Kuehne + Nagel.

“With this acquisition we can leverage our global ecommerce strategy. At the same time, it allows us to strengthen our Contract Logistics footprint in Asia and our position as a leading logistics service provider,” he said.

Kuehne + Nagel have been operating in Indonesia since 1992, and have partnered with a number of local companies in the past 26 years. Wira’s president commissioner, Ekahadi Djaja, said existing and future customers will benefit from the Swiss-headed company’s capabilities and global expertise.
