Fruitnet has confirmed the speaker line up for Fresh Produce India Live, which livestreams on 23 April.
India’s premier conference and expo event for fresh fruit and vegetables will be hosted online for the first time this year, marking a first for the world of fresh produce conference events.
From its studios in London and Melbourne, Fruitnet will host five sessions of quality insight and ideas looking at the future of India’s fresh produce business.
Kicking off at 1pm Indian Standard Time, Fresh Produce India Live will begin with a session exploring where the Indian market is headed in the wake of the coronavirus crisis.
Ruchira Jain, head of Elevate Insights, will keynote the session, bringing her expert insight on consumer behaviour in India gleaned through previous senior roles with leading on-demand delivery platform, Swiggy, and PepsiCo India. She will be joined for the discussion by Parth Karvat, executive director of leading Indian importer Yupaa Fresh, who will share his insights on the trade outlook.
The second session – Grown in India: investing for the future – focuses on more sustainable models for developing India’s production and exports. Yvonne and Mark Tweddle, co-owners of UK headquartered Jupiter Group, will headline the session with a look at how they’re using fresh produce as a force for social and economic development in Indian communities. Joining them will be Nina Patil, director of Indian table grape exporter Fresh Express. Patil will explain her company’s focus on biological farming and women empowerment.
Better marketing to India’s 1.3bn consumers is the focus of the next session. India is ‘a market of markets’, and Gagan Khosla, owner and CEO of importer NGK Trading, will outline some regional opportunities in a spotlight on the city of Indore, while also discussing the burgeoning demand for cherries in India.
Modern retail is also developing in India. John Baker, CEO of Produce Marketing Australia, has conducted a series of retail training programmes for USA Pears in India. He will outline some of the main advances, and look at the keys to successful marketing in India’s modern retail segment.
Continuing the marketing theme, Nicola Zanotelli, director of Italian Alps apple cooperative From, and Beau Higgins, president of Wordsmith Advertising, will deliver a case study on the ‘Natural Goodness from the Italian Alps: Lucky Draw campaign’ run in conjunction with India’s second-largest retailer Big Bazaar.
The Netherlands is also actively supporting the development of India’s horticulture sector, and experts from leading seed breeder Rijk Zwaan and greenhouse specialist VEK Adviesgroep will outline the opportunities for covered cropping in India. Rijk Zwaan’s chain and retail manager Jan Doldersum and VEK Adviesgroep’s co-owner Pascal van Oers will share their vision for developing both mid- and high-tech protected cultivation in the country.
Fresh Produce India Live is free to join and open to anyone with a smartphone or a laptop and a hi-speed internet connection.
