Holding company ADQ has revealed plans for a new tech-powered fresh produce farming hub in Abu Dhabi.
The aim of this project is tohelp positiontheUAE as one of the region’sleading fresh produce farming hubs,reducing thenation’sreliance on premium food imports.
It will be strategically located inAl Ain Industrial City (AAIC) under Abu Dhabi Ports’ industrial cities and free zone clusterand to increaseefficiency in processing, storage, anddistribution of perishable goods and food suppliesfor the region.
As part of the project, ADQ has entered into partnerships withthreecontrolled-environment agriculture specialists to develop and operate greenhouse facilities within the ag-tech park.
Progressive tech-enabledinfrastructurebe used to support large-scale,controlled-environmentfarmingand R&D initiatives.
Once operational,ADQ predicts the200haag-techpark to have an annual fresh fruit and vegetable production capacity of 39,000 tonnes.
Mansour AlMulla, group chief investment officerof ADQ, said the Abu Dhabi government-backed company was actively investing in developing the UAE’s agriculture sector into a leading regional food hub, fortifying the resilience of its food system.
“With a scalable, environmentally sustainable ag-tech park, we will increase the availability of high-quality local produce while leveraging technology to optimise the use of our natural resources, such as water, and protecting our environment,” said AlMulla.
“Efficient ag-tech solutions for fresh produce can help the UAE achieve higher production levels and lower water usage, unlocking the economic and environmental benefits of having shorter supply chains.”
