Some citrus producers in South Australia’s Riverland region have gone as far as pulling out citrus trees to replace them with the more profitable avocados, reported to the ABC.

Western Australia and Queensland will see the lion’s share of increased production, according to the chairman of the South Australian Avocado Growers Association, Colin Fechner.

“With the huge increase out of the Bundaberg region, I think they’re going from about 1.2m to 2.5m trays,” he said.

“Also Western Australia is improving, a lot of new plantings coming in, so the coming year is going to be a fair challenge.”
