Made in Blu China kiwifruit

Following the opening of the Chinese market to Italian kiwifruit, the first shipment from Italy landed in Shanghai on 4 April, and had its official opening on 10 April.

The kiwifruit were under the Made in Blu brand, and its director Furio Mazzotti said Chinese consumers were showing a special interest in Italian fruit because of their high quality.

“Contrary to much thought, the Chinese market has shown a lot of receptiveness for high quality kiwifruit,” said Mr Mazzotti.

“I maintain that there are good prospects for development of this segment in China with a window for kiwifruit of about three months, from the beginning of February to the end of April.”

Chinese quarantine officials carefully inspected the first shipment of Italian fruit, according to Mr Mazotti, and found it to comply with regulations.
