China’s government has taken a new stance on the country’s organic agriculture sector, expressing a desire to push the industry in the wake of food safety scandals earlier this year that tarnished China’s export image.

A motion for “policies on the promotion of acceleration of the organic sector’s development” was approved during the latest meeting of the Chinese State Council, according to local media reports.

The organic sector will become a “pillar in high-tech”, according to a Green Planet.net report.

The State Council meeting emphasised the need to increase the competitiveness of organic production companies in China.

Companies demonstrating leading innovation and international competitiveness will be pointed out and used to form the basis of the national organic sector, the report said.

Construction of new infrastructure and research at university and scientific bodies will also be encouraged.
