In an effort to strengthen exports to Asia, Chile will send a delegation of fruit producers and exporters to Vietnam this year, reports english.vovnews.vn.

The fact-finding tour of the market will be held from August 30 to September 9 and is co-organised by ProChile, the Export Promotion Bureau, under the Chile’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Chilean Exporters Association (Asoex).

The Chilean delegation will pay a visit to supermarkets and distribution centres in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The delegation will also take part in 2009 Asia Fruit Logistica in Hong Kong.

During 2007-2008 season, Chile exported 973 tonnes of fruit to Vietnam. Following Ronald Bown, president of Asoex, one of the priority objectives of Chile’s fruit exporters in 2009-2010 season is to intensify their presence in Asia, particularly in Vietnam and China.

Chile was the leading fruit exporting country in the Latin American region for the 2007-2008 season, supplying over 2.168 million tonnes of fruit to the world market.
