A handful of Australian fruit growers are visiting Asia this week in a bid to develop links to potential export markets and view fresh produce operations in a number of different countries.
The group, which consists of 10 growers from Tasmania, Victoria and South Australia, is currently in Shanghai, China after visiting supermarkets, outdoor markets and importers in Hong Kong.
Further trips to facilities in Taiwan, South Korea and Japan will be made before the growers head back to Australia, according to ABC Rural.
Tasmania-based apple grower Adam Scott told the publication that the high-end Chinese market in particular had the potential to be a profitable export destination for Australian fresh produce.
'It's becoming a very wealthy country and there's a large population with enough money to buy top-end fruit, and particularly things like cherries which there will probably be a big opportunity for,' he said.
