Zespri kiwifruit unloading Antwerp

As the New Zealand kiwifruit marketing season hits the halfway mark, single-desk exporter Zespri’s sales are tracking 3 per cent higher by volume than the same time last year.

The figure is an encouraging one in a difficult global market this year, and reflects the early start and high quality New Zealand’s kiwifruit season experienced.

“On the back of a strong and early start to the season we have achieved solid sales volumes in all markets to date,” Zespri CEO Lain Jager said.

“Although we have passed the significant half way mark in a strong position, there are still challenges ahead.

“The economic environment will continue to affect consumer spending and we will need to work harder and smarter to ensure that Zespri kiwifruit continue to maintain strong sales as competing summer fruit volumes increase.”

All kiwifruit harvesting has been completed in New Zealand, and Zespri’s final shipment of its Gold variety has departed New Zealand bound for Japan, and is due to arrive 16 August.

Shipping of Zespri Green will continue into November.
