fruit fly

In Australia, the Murray Valley Citrus Board has warned authorities to be on the lookout for the presence of fruit fly in consignments of fresh produce.

According to ABC News, the Department of Primary Industries has revealed that a consignment of strawberries from Queensland, possibly infested with fruit fly, may have been sold in Mildura.

Member of the board Jan Denham said that the community needed to pass on information if they discovered contaminated fruit.

'It's showing there really needs to be more vigilance about, especially in soft fruit like strawberries coming out of Queensland with fruit fly,' Mr Denham told ABC News. 'It's something we'll have to look at, but I'm sure as we haven't found any larvae as yet, we're hoping there hasn't been any fruit with fruit fly coming into this region.'
