US-based banana distributor Chiquita Brands International has announced that it is adding 1,250 PrimeLINE container refrigeration units, from Carrier Transicold, to its banana fleet.
The move is designed to reduce the environmental impact of Chiquita's operations and cut fuel consumption.
The refrigeration units are equipped with QUEST power-saving mode, which according to Chiquita is 'a control software that enables further energy savings by intelligently cycling refrigeration on and off based on temperature limits designed for specific perishables'.
Equipment director Juan Guell commented: “Saving energy is important. We included QUEST because, for us, it’s very important from the energy side and for the carbon footprint.”
