A promotional campaign launched today is part of an effort to increase recognition of produce from the Whitsunday Islands off the coast of the Australian state of Queensland.

The ‘Made in the Whitsundays’ campaign was launched by the Minister for Primary Industries and Fisheries Queensland, Tim Mulherin, in the state capital Brisbane.

He said horticulture was the fastest growing primary industry in the state, with 120 varieties of fruit and vegetables produced for both domestic and export markets.

The Whitsundays Islands is a leading production region, responsible for the majority of Australia’s winter vegetable production.

“We all know of the iconic Bowen mango but soon perhaps Australian consumers will be talking equally as reverently about the Bowen tomato and Whitsunday winter vegetables,” said Mr Mulherin.
