bananas

Australia's first shipment of bananas to South Korea has been sent this week, according to reports in the Australian media.

The fruit has been sent by US-based Dole Food Company, which has recently established itself as a grower in Far North Queensland, according to ABC Rural.

Emmanuel Javellana, the director of Australian operations at Dole, told the publication that the company is looking to carve a niche by exporting bananas to areas such as Korea and Japan that other countries cannot reach.

'What we're looking more at is supplying south-east Asia with Australian bananas during the times when they're short, which is Northern Hemisphere springtime,' he explained.
