Danish shipping giant A.P. Moller-Maersk said its net profit nearly tripled in the first quarter of 2008 due to higher oil prices and higher container freight rates, boosting its shares by 7 per cent. Net profit rose to US$1.1bn from US$390m in the same period last year, the company announced last week. Sales rose 31 per cent to US$14.4bn.
